Crystal Monee Hall - If You Breathe

“If You Breathe” and the title track of my was the first song I wrote with producer Andrew Horowitz (Jidenna, John Legend). Just before we started writing, we listened to a mix of my classic and neo soul heroes. We’d just met that day, but the vibe was right. Knocking out the entire tune in two hours. We used my voice not only as backgrounds, but to infuse new sonic elements into the song. That set the tone for the EP, developing a sound with complex melodies and vocal layers.

“This project is my soul record. Every Sunday before church, my mom would tell me ‘When you sing, if you don’t feel it from all the way down in your toes, then why sing at all?’ To her, that didn’t mean the loudest, biggest or highest note, but that your voice emanated from your soul. With that message echoing in my mind, truthful singing and songwriting was the focus of the project from the very beginning. From unconditional love (“If You Breathe”), healing ("Just Like Water"), desperation (“Who Will Witness”) and rage ("Lost Boys"), I wrote these songs in the hopes that they would heal someone like they have me.”

Band Bio

Crystal Monee Hall’s varied career has included roles on Broadway (“RENT”), sold-out tours with acclaimed musicians Mickey Hart (Grateful Dead) and Dave Schools (Widespread Panic), and three albums (one solo as well as two with Hart). Her recent appearances include performing alongside Kanye West and Chance The Rapper during their debut performance of "Ultralight Beam" on Saturday Night Live, appearing on and arranging vocals for Craig David's "All We Needed," ( the official song of the BBC's 2016 Children In Need campaign), and providing vocals for John Legend's single "In America."

Her solo work has been called 'riveting' by Billboard Magazine as well as featured in Rolling Stone and Playbill. However, Crystal considers the upcoming release of “If You Breathe” to be her proper debut.

Produced and co-written with Andrew Horowitz (Jidenna, John Legend) and Dan Edinberg (Nick Jones), Hall’s pair of forthcoming EPs seamlessly blend her love for world, blues, jazz, soul and contemporary R&B, and showcase her talent as a songwriter, while highlighting a voice that has captivated audiences worldwide.

“If You Breathe” is set for release on Monday, April 17th.
