Simmer Town collective presents JJOOBBEE’s debut EP AYE EYE

Dreamy Melbourne neo-jazz outfit JJOOBBEE are excited to release their new and debut EP AYE EYE.

The whimsical vocal range of Jemima Brett is laid onto a solid backline of experienced Melbourne musicians, and produced by Ethiopian-Australian MC, Mikiyas Alemu AKA Bizz from the Simmer Town collective (Royalty Noise).

Five tracks of musical exploration make up AYE EYE’s quest to bring out the genuine language of life’s learnings, in Brett’s first foray into the music industry.

“The concept is just about getting over humps and bumps and trying to get confidence to work out how you’re feeling about everything and then put that into something solid. It’s a chaotic, nonsensical concept, because I was just working out how to write songs, make music with friends and have fun, having never done it before.” – Jemima Brett.

Brett’s raw vocal vulnerability is brought back down to earth with the smooth, tight and driving rhythms of Daniel Richardson on drums, funky bass lines of renowned multi-instrumentalist Yoseph Bekele, and soulful expertise of Nadav Rayman on keys.

The band’s diverse influences – A Tribe Called Quest, Diamond D, Frank Ocean, Hiatus Kayote, Nina Simone – are merged with Brett’s Scottish folk roots and producer Bizz’s Ethiopian background to create a timeless sound that lulls and pulls on the heartstrings.

JJOOBBEE’s poetic lyrics have been transformed into a colourful visual masterpiece in the dream-like video clip for the first single “Into The Light”, a taste of what is yet to come from this refreshing addition to the Melbourne neo-soul scene.
