"Try" produced by Blue Lab Beats, is the second single release, following "Insecure," from Staten Island songstress,rapper,writer JUSTY. Bridesmen - "Someone Who Loves Me"
Bridesmen is Los Angeles based Kenton Chen, an indie neo-soul, R&B singer/songwriter who has set out to encourage others to find power within themselves and use compassion to enact change. Known for his work on NBC’s Sing-Off, as well as his performances with Postmodern Jukebox and Scary Pockets, Chen’s latest project is a radical departure from his jazz/a cappella roots. Chen strives to explore the darker side of human nature, the dichotomy of morality and how to be a good person in a world that ostracizes you, i.e. a 'bridesmen' at a wedding.
The root of the new project Bridesmen, is an outlet for Chen to convey the artistic side of himself, unrelated to other people. With a running theme of expressing individual freedom and responsibility, the singer narrates the emotions of loneliness and the effect it can have on people. Chen reveals, "We hurt when we don't understand each other and we hurt when we are unwilling to change. The best thing we can do is be ourselves within the context of what we were given”. As a gay Asian second generation immigrant, he grew up feeling isolated, constantly hiding behind masks to protect himself. In Bridesmen, Chen aspires to uncover these masks in an effort to live a boundless and truthful life. "I want people to know that as I have grown and matured as an artist and a human being, I've come to realize that my specific experiences of being gay and Asian are not particular to me. My life story reverberates far beyond my specificities, and anyone from any race or sexuality can empathize with the need to belong and be understood”, expresses Chen.
Leading single, 'Someone Who Loves Me' highlights Chen’s warm silky vocals, enchanting modern R&B melodies and hypnotic instrumentation. Thematically the single addresses the loneliness we all feel throughout our lives and assures others that we are not alone. "It's okay to be sad, to be frustrated, even angry in our pursuit of life, love, and happiness. And the more aware and vulnerable we can be about it, the more we can be there for each other”, confides Chen.
The stunning visuals for 'Someone Who Loves Me’ features friends of the artist of all races and sexualities, from all parts of the US. One thing they all share in common is their deep need for love. Chen explains, "The idea behind having bare skin is pretty simple. Each person is beautiful in their own skin. I want to highlight that. In our nakedness, we can't hide behind any brand, or gadget and we have to face how we feel in our own bodies. When we come together at the end of the video, I want people to realize that we are on the this journey together”. Combined with Chen’s honest and raw lyricism, the result is a vulnerable yet empowering delivery.
Chen has found success performing/supporting with artists such as Katy Perry, Kesha, Sara Bareilles, Mary J. Blige and Jennifer Hudson, as well as touring with Portugal the Man and Ben Folds. Straight outta Brixton, London, Fabian Secon has had a rapid rise over the past 18 months and this week he’s back with another banger, new single “My Pain Locked Away”. As always, the track was written and produced by Fabian, and this time he also enlists the talents of mega producer/songwriter Jacob Manson(Rudimental, Ed Sheeran, Craig David).
Speaking on the track, Fabian says, “People often don’t like talking or being open about their struggles, which is where ’My Pain Locked Away’ came from. Berlin based, Vienna-born songwriter and producer narou returns with his latest single ‘Prophecy (ft. Hannah Jenkins)’ to be released on 30th November via Chrome Music. Having worked on numerous notable collabs spanning over a dynamic range of emotions and moods, his latest offering lives and breathes on its own, with a singularly strong yet minimalistic vibe.
Having grown up with music from a very young age, with his father also a music producer, narou’s love for writing has continued to evolve. Drawing from a broad base, After Funk's forthcoming LP Santa Barbara nods to R&B, disco, jazz, soul, Latin, and, well, funk. Nothing feels contrived; these myriad modalities are stylistic colors in their compositional palette. Gilding above and grooving in-between it all is the records’ keystone; the velvet, dynamic voice of Yanick Allwood.
Before After Funk, Allwood (who also plays keys), drummer Jaime Rosenberg, guitarist Phil Tessis, and bassist Justin Bontje lived parallel lives steeped in music. Their paths first crossed at the University of Western Ontario. In 2014 they released a self-titled EP and hit the road. Word of their electric live show started to spread, and soon the band was playing alongside Snarky Puppy, Lettuce and more, and gracing the stage at major festivals such as Electric Forest, Harvest Jazz & Blues, and Evolve in Canada.
In 2015 the band released the ‘Til The Sun Comes Up EP, followed by 2017’s FREAK single. In early 2018 After Funk completed their first coast to coast tour of North America. The bulk of Santa Barbara was written, rehearsed, and workshopped in the band’s house on Santa Barbara Road in Toronto.
In addition to the core quartet, the record features performances by: vocalists Kyla Charter (Alessia Cara, July Talk), Stacey Kay, and James Bailey (July Talk), bass clarinetist Jacob Gorzhaltsan (Jack Dejohnette), tenor saxophonist Julian Nalli (Fred Penner), trumpeter Tom Moffett (BadBadNotGood, Arkells), flautist and alto saxophonist Rob Christian, and Cuban percussionist Rosendo “Chendy” Leon (Sultans of String). The record was produced by Jeff Hazin (Yoko Gold) and mixed by Gabe Gallucci (Shawn Mendes).
An imminently engaging, fully-wrought record that takes the listener by the hand and sprints off into a heady journey, Santa Barbara is nuanced, articulate, and profoundly satisfying.

Keithian - "Birds"
Keithian isn’t a name most would recognize, but the next time you hear it, you will. This New Orleans native has written and produced for some of music’s biggest names and was signed to Virgin Records. But after two failed attempts to release music through them, he decided to take control of his own career and give the label system the “bird.”
“Birds,” the first single from Keithian’s upcoming EP “... to my Pain,” comes off the heels of his “Power” EP which was released in 2016. This past summer, Keithian connected with Caribbean producer and keyboardist Oliver Delcros-Sainville during a session working on music for Rhianna. The pair spent a week in the studio and discovered a connection. Out of those sessions was born the beginning of the songs that would make up Keithian’s upcoming EP.
“‘Birds’ was written about me trying to fall in love, but realizing I’m not fully there,” Keithian said. “My heart and mind was on other shit, like hoes and bullshit. I mean, I’m a guy of nature and when I looked at birds at that time in my life, they reminded me of how I should’ve been flying away from bad behaviors and being honest with that someone I was participating in fake love with.”
Keithian fought over the years to stay true to his culture and heritage in his music. Being Cuban and a Jazz musician, the record labels didn’t know what to do with him. They told him it was hard to gain mainstream success in those genres, and were not willing to support his endeavors. So he went back to Louisiana and created an Urban Pop, R&B and Spanish sound that was natural, authentic and felt “damn good” to him.
“Ultimately, I want my music to be known for good vibes, humility, inspiration and truth,” he said. “My soul is a gumbo of music, just like the world we live in. And since I make music for the people, and there’s people of all kinds of taste and stories, I’ll let them choose what music they want from me. The first song I’d like to give them is ‘Birds.’”
