Pool Cosby - Blind Gold (feat. Raekwon)
Consisting of producer Jacuzzi Jefferson, violinist Kevin Kuh, and drummer Otto Botté, Sample-based electronic band Pool Cosby first demonstrated their versatility and strength as a trio through singles like “Little Do They Know” and “Lookin’ Up,” tastefully merging the worlds of hip-hop and electronic through dreamy builds, luscious synths, and soulful choruses. Staying true to their roots, their journey led them to a collaboration with legendary rapper Raekwon of Wu-Tang Clan on “A Poem Is A Hustle,” at the end of the 2016 and to their biggest achievement yet, their debut album ‘Blind Gold,’ out today.
Prefacing the rest of the album is an introduction from Brian Jackson, whose music has been sampled by many artists including 2Pac, Kanye West, and Kendrick Lamar. Many musical treats await listeners throughout the 13-track album, including the luscious single “Touch” from South Korean singer/song-writer DUVV, which showcases a delightful piano-led melody and glittering synths, and collaborations with Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire, who Rolling Stone praised single “The Last Huzzah” featured El-P, Kool A.D., Heems, Danny Brown, and Despot.
“A Poem Is A Hustle” is the 6th single on the album, which in addition to Raekwon’s edgy, lyrical style features siblings Elena and Samora Pinderhughes, who has made a real name for himself in the jazz world, recently having performed with Common, Bilal and Robert Glasper for NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert at the White House. Further delving into their verse driven beats is a collaboration with Das Racist’s Kool A.D. on “Where Do We Go From Here” and on “Please.” Ending the album on a soulful note, “Lanikai” will leave you floating on a cloud with charming vocal chops and softly plucking instrumentals.
Delightful to the ears and calming for the soul, ‘Blind Gold’ showcases the chill and alternative Pool Cosby sound that leaves you with a yearning sense of nostalgia and happy memories.
