View fullsize Cali Stackz - "Wordaroundtown2" [Review] July 05, 2017 by Yung Miss in Music, Rap, Mixtape Rating: 3.5 out of 5 “Time for another review! This time I’ll be listening to Ontario native Cali Stackz New project Wordaroundtown2 ! Let’s get it started! The project starts with an intro in which Cali Stackz pulls up to an event, invites a chick to his dressing room and has to dismiss her quickly after her boyfriend pops up. Entertaining! Let’s get to this music tho!The first music you hear is actually Cali Stackz single “Whoa”. For those who remember I reviewed the music video for this track not too long ago! Make sure you go check that out to get my opinion on it!. Let’s move on...Next we have “Buddies”, a track with a hook implying that all the girls that Cali Stackz pulls are friends! Hey! Nothing wrong with that! You know what they say, “It ain’t no fun if the homies can’t have none”. But anyway solid verse on the track , introducing listeners more to the vocal style they can expect from Cali Stackz, a mix of based type swag and braggadocios lyrics. The tracks features Lil Map and after hearing him for the first time he seems to also have a swag based style ... Heard him reference the ocean. I was around when that movement got off the ground so always nice to hear upcoming rappers still making the waves move.”Birthday” follows as the next track! This track is another popular single from Cali Stackz. I had the pleasure of being a fly on the wall during the video shoot for this joint. Still looking forward to seeing the visuals. Not gon lie, I had this song on repeat on my birthday just to hype myself up to have a good day! And it definitely worked! Worth the listen. To be honest when I saw “Ugh Ugh” ft. Lil Jeff on the tracklist I was a little surprised. I didn’t expect a collab between these two artist. Always seemed like they were artist on rival crews but things change and I’m here for it! I enjoy music from both artist and Lil Jeff definitely brought his talent for his appearance on this track! ”Left Right” starts with an infamous skit from Friday, highlighting Ms. Parker and her neighbors love for her assets. As far as the concept for the song that follows, I have heard it done a handful of times including on a track I produced for “someone” not too far out the local circle so I kind of wish the track was a little more creative but let’s move on..”2k” features Myagi and Gucci Pints. Not sure who is who but I will say that it seems like Cali Stackz is the feature on this joint instead of the other way around. Always cool to collaborate with names you feel are on the come up tho.”Waseem Speaks” provides a brief interlude where popular but now incarcerated artist Waseem literally “speaks” on his feelings about Stackz progress in the game after all he has been through including being shot. Always nice to hear from the homies and feel supported.”How Could You” is a new type of style for Cali Stackz and shows more of his melodic vocal style. Who knew that he had vocals tho?! I see you! The topic of the track focuses on how Stackz is done wrong by a female and as a result retaliates by doing things like fucking on her friends. Its a dog eat dog world out here!”Other Bitch” immediately caught my attention because of the R&B production and once again Cali Stackz hits listeners with the vocals! I wish the two melodic tracks were spread apart so that his singing could have more of a highlight on it but I definitely impressed by the switch up in style from one type of swag to another.”Buster” brings back a more aggressive flow from Cali Stackz tho! He is sporting really hard on this track! Would love to see him do this LIVE. I can only imagine the energy he would put out! After seeing him perform a handful of times, I definitely enjoy feeling connected to him and watching him throroughly enjoy what he is doing when he rocks!”Yuh!” sounds sorta like “Woah!”.... I think it should have been used on a different project or maybe for an exclusive release on a blog or something. Track still has that dope vibe to it tho. ”Feeling Good” has a vibe that reminds me of Lil Yatchy’s popular song “One Night” because of the piano and the lightheartedness in the production ... And that’s it! Overall, what I enjoyed most about the project was Cali Stackz diversity. His sound surprised me at times because I expected him to come with a handful of turn up tracks. It seems like he is tryna focus in on his style which is a great thing. Once he finds it and is able to add something to it that is exclusive to him I think it is a matter of time before his name starts to ring even more bells than it already has. I look forward to seeing some visuals from this project and seeing Cali Stackz perform LIVE at DIY FEST on September 3rd. 3.5/5” — Yung Miss (LA On Lock Blogger)
