Don’t You Dare Sleep on Steve DaMar’s -- KnightMares of the 310 [Album Review]
Steve DaMar gets straight out personal on his new album KnightMares of the 310. Within the intimacy of the lyrics and the emotive delivery, DaMar reveals both his talent and his mindset. The early tracks of the album feel especially biographical giving us as listeners an insight far too may other artists run from. With KnightMares of the 310, Steve DaMar makes it clear he runs from nothing or nobody.
From the opening track “Lyntro” you get a sense of place, of intent, and of determination that prevails throughout the entire album. These qualities are delivered via a variety of flows and styles that keeps the entire project feeling fresh and intriguing for the duration.
The third track on the album “LaLa” kicks ups the energy with a hard beat, backing an old school flow with banging bars. Coming with bravado that stands in stark contrast to the bare honesty and vulnerability of the next track,“Thinking Chair,” which also has more of a soulful R&B delivery at times. These back-to back selections shine a spotlight on DaMar’s diverse talent, both in the writing and the delivery. The varied arrangements and deliveries of this album also speak of a quality in production and forethought to the construction of the album.
“Lynwood Mac” takes us to Steve DaMar’s home streets of Lynwood, California and the backing production perfectly sets of his smooth flow that carried a hint of Kanye in both its message and delivery.
The title track is the sixth offering among the seventeen selections making up the album. “KnightMares of the 310” is the history behind DaMar and is certainly pivotal to establishing to lyrical progression of the album and feels almost like the end of chapter one of the project with the vibe taking a more mellow, less emotional intense direction.
That is not to say the back half of KnightMares of the 310 goes easy in its writing or performances. Only that there is a noticeable shift in the vibe.
DaMar might step back from the self-reflective intensity, but his boldness and flow are still unflinching. Tracks such as “Laxative” which make it clear the artist isn’t going to take shit from anyone, whereas “Bulletproof Soul” and “No Peace” deliver clear Conscious Hip-Hop vibes with intelligent, thought-provoking lyrics that might not feel as starkly personal as the opening tracks, but carry universal resonance that wraps around your mind long after the last beat.
“Kan’t Rest” is another standout track among the tracks on the back half of the album. Coming with a stream-of-conscious vibe, the delivery is emotive and real and like every other track on this collection the production gets out of the way never overshadowing the emotion of the writing or delivery.
Steve DaMar stands at the mic and delivers without the need for unnecessary embellishment. Honest and true, there is not a toss away track on KnightMares of the 310 making it a standout effort from an artist that deserves every bit of the attention coming his way.

#LAOnLockExclusive: N3 On The Track - "N3 On The Track, Vol. 1" [Compilation Album]
When N3 first started making beats he was 12 years old. He loved music and he found a way to make his own, and that was the virtual studio program "Fl Studio". He loved how the program worked and with it he made beats and would let his parents hear all the time.
After discovering a way to make his beats, he wanted to start rapping. At first he just made simple freestyles over other artists beats and then he started getting serious and making his own beats and rapping on them. After finding himself, he decided to put more time into producing & engineering music. In his early producing days he started off working with artists from his hometown Lynwood, California, which earned him his first major placement on a song he produced featuring RBX .
In 2012 N3 started to work heavily with Spiffie Luciano, which led to producing & mixing for AD, Quincey White, Pacman da Gunman, Tiu Muzic, Kokane, & LilCadiPGE. After expanding his clientele & coming across so many talented artists throughout Los Angeles, N3 came up with an idea to start his own media platform that kept independent artists in mind first. This is when 'LA On Lock' was born. After securing the LAOnLock.com domain, he wasted no time & began to type up blogs in support of any good music that was submitted. Over the years the brand has grown to curating events, exclusive premieres, a podcast show & more.
N3 released his first compilation album "New Classics" in 2015. Fast forward to 2019 he's just released his second compilation album entitled “N3 On The Track, Vol. 1” along with features from Marty Blaze, D.R.E, Slum Baby, Garrett Douglas, Elijah Banx, Deuce Biggs, Rozo Regal, Karma Laws, Stophe Malone, Macharo, Steve DaMar, Howie Khepri, Rimpau, AD, Radio Base, AhmniMay & more; + collaboration on production from FameBeats, FynessOnDaTrack, Austin James & Deuce Biggs.
"I feel like this is my redemption album. I know people doubt me, & I feel like my choice of production has a lot to do with it. We're breaking down those barriers this year."

Spiffie Luciano Releases Self-Titled Mixtape (LAOnLock.com Exclusive)
Spiffie Luciano released his 9th consecutive mixtape; & in exchange with the typical theme find for projects, he went with the self-title option for a bigger purpose.
This year has been a successful one for the independent artist from South Central. Connected with SODMG artist ReeseMoneyBagz about 5 months back for a remix of Desiigners "Panda" along with a music video that hit over 30k views since then. Then shortly after that an original single with up & coming Bay Area artist Mozzy featuring Poppa XO. Which was shortly followed by yet another single featuring recent Doggystyle Records signee Jooba RC.
I had the opportunity to be behind the scenes at an interview hosted by Refuse Media for Spiffie, & one of his main statements in response to why he self titled this project was:

Spliff Hemingway and Duke Westlake ~ Water: The 4 Year Journey
I met Spliff Hemingway back in 2012 at a Beat Fighter/Beat Battle/Hip-Hop event @ 2nd Street Jazz Club in Los Angeles. Good vibes, Good people. First time I came out it was to support one of my artists who was booked to perform. After we stayed around to support the rest of the talent; & in between sets we would catch Spliff hop on stage, grab the mic with so much comfortability; & just start flowin'.
I would say about a day after that event, I contacted the event host O-Phrap interested in being a producer in the next upcoming Beat-Battle. Submitted beats & got approved. Fast forward to the day of this event, Walk in, vibe always right; Ashley-Domonique on stage hosting. Beat-Battle goes down. Didn't win but I loved the experience. Ofcourse I stayed around to support the rest of the talent; & like I expected Spliff comes out the cut, gets that grand introduction, grabs the mic; & starts GASSIN! Sometimes getting so into it he's closing his eyes for a minute. For like 5 minutes straight sometimes. The whole crowd would be so magnetic to it and gather towards the stage. Every time. For me & my team just beginning to start performing at that time, it was truly inspirational.
Went home, added bro on Facebook, reached out to find all the music online I could. All I found was one at the time. "Buddha Heads". It was only one joint. It wasn't even that long. But I must've played it all day, on the way home from school, at school, at home. I would randomly come outta no where sayin "apple heads, cherry heads, yo" Lol. Me being a producer & an artist myself, you can tell when an artist & a producer have a good relationship just from hearing the music. Duke Westlake crafted that beat in tone with Spliff to match with clarity.
"Buddha Heads is where it all started. In May of 2011 my crew The A.L.U.M.N.I. opened up for Duke Westlake's crew E.Super. Duke came up to me at the end of the show that night and told me he was impressed with my performance and I told him that I was a fan of his music and we exchanged contacts. We made Buddha Heads the next day. It was like magic the way it all happened. Now here we are 4 years later releasing a classic album together and none of this would have happened if it wasn't for that night" -Spliff Hemingway
I kept up with the movement all those years. Every music video. Every major move, including theVans Warped Tour. (Wish I could've made a show) Every single. Flighted feat. Agallah. Mr. Hemingway. Every year he mentioned his album "Water" that was coming soon. In my mind I was like how can someone hold something back for so long; because in this generation so many artist are used to making music & dropping it repeatedly. But something of this quality deserves all the time to be perfected; which I think is exactly what Duke Westlake & Spliff Hemingway did.
